The second annual Herts Aid 7-a-side BME football tournament kicked-off at the Powerleague in Bushey on Saturday 27th July. Eight teams from across Hertfordshire, spectators, volunteers and charities came together for a day of fun, football and education – Herts Aid is an HIV and sexual health charity offering support, education and clinical services.
Traditionally, men within the BME community have a low involvement in support groups and the tournament provided an important medium of engagement to raise awareness, promote good sexual health and offer rapid blood tests for infections such as chlamydia.
The Watford African Caribbean Association supported the event by providing an outdoor Barbeque to teams and spectators with a range of Halal dishes and vegetarian options. Feedback for the food and the whole event was very positive. The eventual winner of the Herts Aid Cup was Watford’s Youth Connexion team based at the Holywell Community Centre. Well done to everyone.
