More than 150 people joined together on Sunday 26th May to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago – an event organised by the Watford African Caribbean Association. The special Thanksgiving Service was delivered by Father Geoff Calvert PhD at St Michaels and All Angels Church and enjoyed by visiting dignitaries from Caribbean High Commissions, the Chair of Watford Borough Council, friends and family.
Readings were performed by Councillor Malcolm Meerabux and children from the Watford African Caribbean Association Saturday School. Local community choir Gospel Arts Manna beautifully sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross” to the appreciative congregation.
The service was followed by informal conversation and a Caribbean Banquet prepared and served by Enid Saunders and the newest member of the Watford African Caribbean Association team, Patrick Charlton.
There are many people to thank regarding uniting the community today and making the service a success – Cynthia Dixon, Pearline McFarlane, Sandra Fullerton, Clive Saunders, Beverley King, Enid Saunders and Patrick Charlton to name a few – not to mention everyone at St Michaels and All Angels (who are celebrating 100 years of heritage this year). Thank you all.
